Personally I’d just do it

Cool, is there any kind of community yet?

Moltbook; it also seems like OpenAI is experimenting with the agents communicating via wiki on topics like these.

For the 68k computer not ai stuff

Try an LLM, either to do it directly or to guide your own explorations

as a guy who doesnt have experience fiddling with this kinda stuff, what is the step by step process if any to go about figuring out how an unknown file format is actually made of and modifying it?

- the post itself quotes "I usually couldn’t really give them a good answer except, “Look at the decompiled code of whatever program reads/writes these files and work backwards from there.”

- i dont have the program and that is the real challenge

I would start with something like this: "Today's session will be a bit different and very exciting to me.

I have this game, Game Name exact version, which I love and I logged hundreds of hours in it, however there's this little detail that bothers me like a pebble in a shoe: (details of the problem here). I think that it's all encoded in the file (file name), but it's binary and I have no idea how to access it :(

Could you perhaps guide me how to analyse and "decode" this file so I could later change this behaviour? I don't have any experience with reverse engineering but I'm excited to try.

All game files are in /full/path/to/the/game

Thanks!"

Works for me.

Be excited, frame it as a learning opportunity, make sure it's obvious its for your own enjoyment (not for distribution).

Claude.ai, set to Opus xhigh, attach file, "Try to decode the file format of this save game from Name of Game. Do research if necessary"

If the file's too big, you'll probably need to download a harness/local app. If you go local route, make sure you have a backup in case the LLM breaks the file

The local route it can also try to poke at the binaries that read/write the file so it would have a bit more to work with going that route

They’d said as much explicitly and implicitly with their actions.

Source, please.

You're replying to someone's personal interpretation and opinion asking about a source? That is the source. Do you not understand how discussions work?

Is there a source for how discussions work?

Feels more like they're discovering Taoism to me

Read it recently and that sounds right.

It's strangely tautological to me but I only have my lifetime to consider, not the age of the solar system.

They’re probably hoping for some hardware version of the software “bitter lesson”

I think it’s probably also easier to raise money on a humanoid robot because everyone has some intuitive understanding of the form.

They’ll train on prompts and anything else you send in. Many LLM responses are sorta finger printable: I assume this is intentional

Yeah this was what got me to start doing short rentals of bigger gpus in the clouds, upload your parquet files and it takes a couple of hours for a thing that would have my mac at 100% for a couple of days

The finger jointed pine stuff is much more robust than the mdf or hardboard products.

IKEA does stuff not out of MDF and cardboard?

In case you're not just being sarcastic, stuff like Ivar.

Was a genuine question, thanks.

yes, the lingonberry drink they serve in the cafeteria. :)

actually they had some metal garage shelves that I thought would be ok.

They turned out to be SUPER flimsy and wobbly.

I think they optimize for shipping weight, which means 'solid' suffers.

Right, metal I know of, I just assumed they switched over to cheap materials in place of weed, so good to know.

Their dining tables are pretty much all solid pine.

generally for every thing (bed, chair, bookshelf, coffee table, etc) there's a solid wood version
