Well they sell that liquid explosive terrorists use to make molotov cocktail firebombs, at every fuel station without particular volume limits at all. It's also sufficiently toxic that care is taken at salespoint to limit customer exposure to the vapours.

Look under the section “Surprise”. This gives a construction that produces a new function g, whose transform is itself, that is a simple modification of any function ”f” that you supply.

In essence, the class of “functions that transform into themselves” is surprisingly broad and non-specific for those of us who key in on that fact about the Gaussian.

Because

1) Humans night vision is significantly worse than your regular vision. Low light would cause more accidents, eg.

2) The elderly have pretty terrible night vision. Your idea would exclude them from half the day.


The elderly don't generally go to the park for a midnight stroll. Nighttime is the realm of the young.


What? When sunset is at 5pm you want to lock the elderly up in their homes? What about those that have trouble sleeping, like many do? Or those that wake up before sunrise?

This is the kind of thinking that leads to totally inaccessible cities.


If you want to go for a walk in the park in the middle of the night and can't see without a light, BRING A FLASHLIGHT. That's just basic safety. You never know when a power outage will strike. If you are 100% dependent on artificial light, the safest thing to do is bring your own.


Excessively bright and excessively blue lighting can also be inaccessible.


the sad thing, in a way, is that the law entitles the pedestrian here but doesn't protect them. One could make an argument that cars which take the "visual" away from the driver should simply be illegal. Why can they even be sold ?

It's a massive propaganda push paid for by some of the richest people of the planet. It started with Brexit/Cambridge Analytica; continues with the Bannon/Epstein chat histories, and Vance/Trump trying to influence local elections (e.g. the pro-Orban speeches).

It seems autocrats are really uncomfortable with educated people speaking up. I'm quite sure these autocrats are also really annoyed when their own children reach puberty.


Ranking software engineers is famously hard. What does "top 40%" even mean ? Skills/Experiences/Productivity in that sector are not some Gaussian Distribution of trivially-measurable output. But even if measurable, they're not gaussian distributed for sure. My mum won't make a software engineer anyone would hire no matter how much AI you gave her to assist. If you fire all your developer staff other than the "10x-ers" who with AI assistance have gamed your metrics^W^W^Wboosted their skills to become 100x-ers then you rip the floor from your company; noone to question or review the golden code, 100% trust into something you barely understand and cannot question, and you pay for it. Maybe little now while you're being fixed on. Once AI operators try to get their "money back", there's the sucking sound of a few trillion moving from AI users to ... somewhere. Not your share price, though.

AI is a great tool. Including for software engineers to train with and learn new skills, find new application areas, build new products. It's not doing it justice to call it "autocomplete on steroids". If these five "100x-ers" leave a year in to found their own company, not the least because they've become aware of the size of the mess, then good luck swinging your product strategy to "hey AI, sell this product I'm going to tell you to build".


These relative figures mean nothing. Your usage of one specific ultra-new model went from one hour a month to seven? congrats to the 600% increase. Your use of a widespread common model went from 1M tokens to 7M tokens ? Also a 600% increase. Your spend on AI from 1M/month to 84M/year ? ditto.

Other than the latter, I'd read all this as meaningless. Am I wrong?


"velocity" is not "frequency"; someone throwing semi-finished products at the wall to see what sticks surely has frequent product launches. But even if these ship fast from inception to launch, this scattergun approach does not scale to provide product maintenance or support. It's a productivity smokescreen for lack of a product strategy, and claiming AI will substitute for support/maintenance fits straight in with that. Anything but coherent strategy, that. Maybe here's an unexplored AI opportunity.


German 50 Trillion (Marks) _stamps_ from 1923 are (literally) a-dime-a-dozen because postal services had a giant amount of them printed for issue in fall-1923 - just to have the whole lot rendered obsolete by the November currency reform. Unstamped/new they're not worth the paper they're printed on. Verifiably used / franked actually on a postal package they are much rarer. Fortune reversal - the worthless item becoming the collectible...
