This. Here's a dashboard with an estimate of the number of people with long covid in the USA:

https://pascdashboard.aapmr.org/

Those people will not be answering your survey, and they may never rejoin the workforce. The dashboard is pretty simple, it just assumes 30% of all known cases will get long covid, but there are some studies that back up that 30% number. It lets you change the percentage to see what effect that has as well. The worker shortage may be permanent. You might be able to entice people out of retirement if they retired early and are still healthy, but you won't be able to entice those who are ill and went on to disability or disability plus retirement to come back.

It seems crazy no one seems to have a handle on what is actually going on with long covid, it could have a very large effect on the economy, both from lost workers and people now needing to be supported in their lives instead of producing. All the big news sources run an occasional article on long covid, but none of them are doing surveys or looking at other data sources to get solid data. This could be big enough to reduce GDP significantly. But we just don't know and no one except a few tiny groups seems to be trying to find out. The Great Resignation may actually be partially the Great Sickout.
