We don't really need artificial consciousness. Actually, we should avoid it. We already have Artificial General Intelligence (contrary to common perception). Artificial consciousness will only complicate things. A lot. Better keep on enhancing the AGI we have and use it as a tool rather than having to deal with the emotional and ethical aspect of the AI in case it gets consciousness.
